Metal is definitely, by far my all-time favorite though, and I consider it to be part of my personality, I play guitar all th time, or am either lestening to some music (usually Metal) if that makes sense.. I just generally don't like (c)Rap, Nu-Metal, Country music or Pop music, and no, before you assume, it has nothing to do with what's considered "cool" these days, I've been listening to Metal non-stop since I was about 7 years old.

2004-07-22 [Astaroth]: Oh yes, and [Whim]... to answer your question to the sub-genres. I do know that Metal has MANY sub-genres, because of many differrent STYLES of Metal. Musical arrangements, scales, techniques, percussion, there are lots of differrent style which vary from simple to complex in using certain amounts of any given qaulity of musicianship. Most of the musicianship used in Death Metal and Black Metal is rather mediocre, just to name one. However, Neo-classical Metal is by far the most complex style, as far as guitar virtuoso and such goes. Since the beggiinning of Metal(Maiden, Priest, Saxon, Motorhead) it has evolved into differrent styles. Which doesn't neccessarily mean newer stuff is "better".

2004-07-22 [Astaroth]: Actually, the older musicians are generally much better and more dedicated in my opinion. Guitars at least are generally alot more complex than they are now. The reason that I dislike Nu-Metal is because it is EXTREMELY simple in compraison to most Metal bands. What's ironic is that those crappy musicians are selling most records these days, it's a shame the way it's going. And contrary to popular belief, Metallica is actually Thrash Metal, and they aren't the "Masters of Metal" either. They've only been around since the early 80's, and they just ripped off thei British Metal idols and changed a couple of things around, just so you know.
